Melgaço leads Iberian project that seeks to connect six municipalities through thermal networks

Melgaço, in the high Miño, has concluded all the works that it presented to the project Raia Termal – that involves six Portuguese and Galician municipalities located in the basins of the rivers Miño and Lima – and prepares to begin to promote the thermal destination.

“We can say that Melgaço is, of the Galician and Portuguese municipalities, which have the execution done. We will be with an execution of 70%, in an investment of 250 thousand euros”, said today the president of the Chamber of Melgaço, Manoel Batista.

With a budget of nearly two million euros, the Raia Termal project is developed within the scope of the INTERREG VA Spain-Portugal Cooperation Programme (POCTEP) 2014-2020 and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER). Coordinated by the Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation, it integrates, on the Spanish side, in the province of Ourense, the municipalities of Cortegada, Lobios, Bande and Muíños.

In the north of Portugal, the municipalities of Melgaço, in the Viana del Castillo district, and Tierras de Bouro, in the Braga district, are part of the Peneda-Gerês National Park (PNPG). In Melgaço, the socialist mayor advanced that the project of valorization of the thermal natural resources has a total budgetary endowment of 370 thousand euros.

Manoel Batista guaranteed “all the physical actions are implemented” – proposals – “the requalification of the thermal park, the arrangement of the parking zone next to the entrance of the park, the transformation of the minigolf field into a fitness zone to complete the offer and the substitution of the lake portals next to the park”.
